Smallholders grow most of the world's coffee and have the least access to the market that rewards it. Most importers show up at harvest, buy, and leave.

Semilla works the other way round. At origin we co-own the businesses alongside the people running them on the ground — and in Colombia, the company we buy through is owned outright by the producers themselves. We pay salaries through the year rather than only at harvest, and we've built processing infrastructure where there wasn't any.

That's the difference you're paying for. Every bag carries the name of the person who grew it, what they were paid, and what we sold it for.
